About this artwork
My own sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects were the starting point for this conceptual work, which was recently created in collaboration with my fellow artist Florian Merkel (photographer I painter).
Florian used analytical methods to process a recording of a luminous phenomenon over Chemnitz in 2025.
The result visualizes the potential of hidden structures in the image material and the system used. By pushing the boundaries of common digital… image processing parameters, we get to the bottom of the mystery. Nothing was added to or removed from the image; the latent information was amplified to an extreme degree.
The result is fascinating due to the high aesthetic quality of the objectively existing patterns and encourages reflection on the emerging connections.

Lydia Thomas works primarily with painting and graphic art, influenced by her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.
