About this artwork
Something here is familiar — an eye, a lip, the whiteness of teeth — yet the whole remains just out of reach. A diagonal line cleaves the face in two; one half visible, the other dissolving into a golden silence. This fracture is not accidental. It is the tension of our time, the exhausting negotiation of identity in a world that never stops transforming.
Digital existence, displacement, layered cultures,… social pressure; together they reduce identity to a remnant. What survives? A gaze. A trace. A cracked surface.
Cold wax and sand carry the physical weight of time on this surface. The cracks formed on their own. I only chose to keep them. Because disintegration, too, is a narrative.
Remains is both noun and verb: what is left behind, and the act of continuing to exist. Fragmented, but still here.

Using burlap, rope, thread, tulle, and fabric collage, Kara builds compositions that shift and interrupt the image. Rooted in personal memory and textile traditions of the Black Sea region, these materials carry both physical and emotional weight.
Through layering, cutting, and stitching, the figure emerges through tension rather than control. Her works exist between visibility and concealment, where identity remains unresolved and in constant flux.
