I didn’t create this work from an idea — I created it from a state.
A quiet tension between what is seen and what is hidden.
This piece feels like a threshold — a place where reality begins to dissolve into something more symbolic, almost ritual-like. The central figure is not just a character, but a messenger, a witness between worlds — carrying fragments of memory, fear, and transformation.
I am drawn to intricate line work because it allows… me to slow time down, to build meaning layer by layer. Every detail is intentional, but not everything is meant to be understood immediately. Some elements are meant to be felt rather than decoded.
Through this work, I invite the viewer into a space of contemplation — a place where logic steps aside and intuition takes over. It’s about that fragile moment when you stand between control and surrender.
Maybe this image won’t give answers.
But it might ask the right questions.
Maksym Stasiuk is a Ukrainian painter, illustrator, and printmaker born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. For over 20 years, he illustrated hundreds of children’s books, working in both digital and traditional techniques. Recently, he returned to his first passion — painting. Maksym works with watercolour, acrylic, and graphic techniques, exploring themes of memory, transformation, and emotional depth. Since relocating near Lviv with his wife and two children, he has focused on developing his own artistic voice. Art is a shared path in the Stasiuk family: his wife and daughter are also artists, and their life together is built around creativity and meaning.
