About this artwork
I created this work as a reflection on how memory builds us from within — layer by layer, fragment by fragment. For me, identity is not something fixed; it is an architecture constantly under construction.
In this piece, two faces emerge from a shared inner structure — not as opposites, but as different directions of the same self. Between them lies a dense field of symbols, mechanisms, and organic forms, suggesting that memory is not linear. It… is chaotic, intuitive, and often contradictory.
Working with ink allows me to construct this complexity through lines — each mark becoming a trace of thought, a decision, or a hesitation. The process feels almost archaeological, as if I am uncovering something that already exists beneath the surface.
This work is not about remembering clearly, but about carrying everything — even what we do not fully understand.
I see it as a quiet tension between who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.

For over 20 years, he illustrated hundreds of children’s books, working in both digital and traditional techniques.
Recently, he returned to his first passion — painting. Maksym works with watercolour, acrylic, and graphic techniques, exploring themes of memory, transformation, and emotional depth.
Since relocating near Lviv with his wife and two children, he has focused on developing his own artistic voice.
Art is a shared path in the Stasiuk family: his wife and daughter are also artists, and their life together is built around creativity and meaning.
