I created this work as a reflection on the quiet connection between the inner world and the natural one. For me, nature is not something outside of us — it continues within us, in thoughts, memories, and instincts.
In this piece, the human figure becomes a vessel, carrying fragments of life: organic forms, textures, and symbols that suggest growth, transformation, and continuity. The apple, placed in the foreground, acts as a simple but powerful… sign — of origin, choice, and the beginning of awareness.
Working with ink allows me to build the image slowly, through lines and layers, almost like cultivating something delicate and alive. Each detail grows into the next, forming a structure that feels both fragile and inevitable.
I don’t see this work as an illustration, but as a state — a moment where the boundary between the self and the world becomes almost invisible.
I hope the viewer doesn’t try to decode it immediately, but instead stays with it long enough to feel it.
Maksym Stasiuk is a Ukrainian painter, illustrator, and printmaker born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. For over 20 years, he illustrated hundreds of children’s books, working in both digital and traditional techniques. Recently, he returned to his first passion — painting. Maksym works with watercolour, acrylic, and graphic techniques, exploring themes of memory, transformation, and emotional depth. Since relocating near Lviv with his wife and two children, he has focused on developing his own artistic voice. Art is a shared path in the Stasiuk family: his wife and daughter are also artists, and their life together is built around creativity and meaning.
