About this artwork
Divided into three distinct vertical zones, structural marks that resemble epicormic growth dimples puncture the metal. Beneath this lattice and oozing across its surface, a visceral expanse of cobalt oil paint bursts forth—replacing the blood-red exudate of botanical wounding with a luminous, synthetic pulse from another world.

« Membrane Art is a doorway to endless possibilities. It’s heavily dependent upon the geometric surface which underpins it, and until it's unraveled, we are blind to all possible outcomes. »
This deep focus on limitation and altered perception stems from Koch's personal history, growing up with a profoundly deaf father and a deaf-blind mother. Within this practice, restriction is transformed into capability; the physical blind spots of the curved surface do not limit the work but forge entirely new ways to construct meaning. Ultimately, the finished flat surface acts as a permanent visual archive of the memory of the curve.
