About this artwork
With "I Love Bananas," Manuela Kuntz impressively explores the beauty and vulnerability of an endangered species. The depiction of an orangutan with bananas is more than a portrait—it is both a homage to our closest animal relatives and a silent protest against the destruction of their habitat. The work is intended to encourage reflection on our relationship with nature and draw attention to the vulnerability of those creatures with whom we are more… closely connected than we often realize.
The inspiration for the image developed during a personal trip to an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo. The central motif is based on one of hundreds of photographs taken during this tour. The scene at a feeding station set up by rangers becomes the starting point for an expressive work that is captivating with its color, texture, and intensity.
