About this artwork
This work is inspired by real experiences I had during my psychological therapy. During this time, I embarked on several shamanic journeys in search of my place of healing. I returned there again and again, encountering power animals and spiritual helpers who accompanied me on my path. This painting is the first in a series dedicated to this theme and is still in development.
What I present here is not an invention, but a lived, deeply felt experience—as… real as the many realities we create every day. I was there, surrounded by beings of power and guided by my paternal grandmother, whose gentleness and determination gave me the courage to rediscover my inner light.

I am María Gutiérrez, a visual artist from Bogotá, Colombia. In my artistic practice, I work with two focuses: painting and photography. Both media enable me to create emotional, atmospheric, and contemplative spaces that invite connection with oneself, one's surroundings, and nature. I completed my art studies in 2009 at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia with a focus on photography. I then taught art and photography at private schools in Bogotá for four years. In 2012, I moved to Germany. I later continued my studies at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts and successfully graduated in 2021. Since then, I have been working as a freelance artist. Today, I live in Freiburg im Breisgau with my husband and our two children. My work has been exhibited in Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain, among other places.
