About this artwork
Presented on a steel plinth (20 x 20 cm), SQUARES AND CIRCLE closely resembles several of the artist's last paintings (BEYOND THE GRIDS - TRACES 20032 and BEYOND THE GRIDS 20061). Indeed, in the same spirit, this sculpture on the theme of the grid, rather than barring or prohibiting, structures the space and participates in it.
This solid wood disc seems to fly away. Starting from a solid, textured base, a multitude of small squares open as many… windows.
The writing is structured but not rigid, it combines with the circular form, bringing rhythm and movement.
The texture of the surface expresses the marks of time and thus contributes to the timeless character of this piece. The warm hue of the wood makes this sculpture a warm and comfortable piece to the eye.
This unique piece is made of ash. Removed from its base, it can also be hung on the wall.
