About this artwork
“Corner of the block” presents the street as a psychological theatre rather than a physical location. I approached this work as a collision of identities, symbols, surveillance, memory and noise, all compressed into a crowded urban corner where every figure appears both connected and isolated. The fragmented bodies and mechanical anatomies suggest a society rebuilding itself through technology while simultaneously losing intimacy and spiritual coherence.…
I wanted the painting to feel restless, like overheard conversations, flickering advertisements and passing strangers layered on top of one another. Despite its chaos, there is rhythm and humour here; a strange humanity survives beneath the distortion, holding the entire structure together.

Marc Rayner is an Australian artist based in Sweden who has exhibited his works nationally, as well as in Sweden, Monaco, France, Qatar, Italy, India, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan. The key to his artworks is the creation of 'quasi-landscapes' rich in text and design, or flat and almost devoid of information. This 'distorted zone' is a place where Rayner's tormented, disenfranchised, and often unfortunate characters exist. He is drawn to outsider artistic styles and naive art in broader terms.
