About this artwork
In Homonids I present the human figure as an artifact—fragmented, assembled, and reconstituted like a relic excavated from an uncertain timeline. Each form is grafted together from disparate visual languages, suggesting that what we are is neither singular nor stable, but accumulated. I am interested in how identity reads when stripped of coherence and reassembled as evidence rather than presence. These figures exist somewhere between specimen and…
memory, echoing both ancient totems and future remnants. By flattening and layering them onto board, I reduce the human to a constructed surface—an object to be examined, questioned, and perhaps misread entirely.

« Our world is tearing itself apart environmentally, socially, and economically. It is my job to highlight the faults as I see them. I disguise dark themes with color and rhythmical lines. »
Marc Rayner is an Australian artist based in Sweden who has exhibited his works nationally, as well as in Sweden, Monaco, France, Qatar, Italy, India, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan. The key to his artworks is the creation of 'quasi-landscapes' rich in text and design, or flat and almost devoid of information. This 'distorted zone' is a place where Rayner's tormented, disenfranchised, and often unfortunate characters exist. He is drawn to outsider artistic styles and naive art in broader terms.
