About this artwork
I look back at live entertainment as a restless, shifting organism—part ritual, part spectacle, part survival. Figures emerge like echoes of performers past: musicians, actors, circus bodies, all stitched together in memory and distortion. I’m not documenting history so much as feeling its residue—its energy, its absurdity, its cost. There’s humour here, but also unease; a sense of being watched while performing. In this work, I trace how entertainment… has always balanced wonder and exploitation, spectacle and vulnerability, across time.

Marc Rayner is an Australian artist based in Sweden who has exhibited his works nationally, as well as in Sweden, Monaco, France, Qatar, Italy, India, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan. The key to his artworks is the creation of 'quasi-landscapes' rich in text and design, or flat and almost devoid of information. This 'distorted zone' is a place where Rayner's tormented, disenfranchised, and often unfortunate characters exist. He is drawn to outsider artistic styles and naive art in broader terms.
