About this artwork
Ich zeige ein altgedientes Haus an den Gestaden eines Gewässers und wähle einen strengen, frontalen Standpunkt. Die perfekte Spiegelung macht den Bau zur Doppelfigur – Körper und Echo –, sodass Tristesse und Würde gleichzeitig sichtbar werden. Abgeplatzter Putz, blinde Fenster, Spuren von Reparatur und Gebrauch: Zeit hat sich eingeschrieben. Die erdige Tonung nimmt das Bild aus dem Postkartenhaften und führt es zurück ins Materielle – Mauer, Wasserhaut,…
Schwerkraft.
Mich interessiert dieser Moment, in dem das Angegriffene Haltung annimmt. Das Wasser legt dem Haus eine zweite Haut an, die Risse zu Linien ordnet und die Symmetrie milde macht. So wird das Gebäude zum Gegenüber: verletzlich und standhaft zugleich. Ein stilles Stadtbild „auf der anderen Seite“ über Dauer, Gebrauch und Erinnerung – zugleich ein sensibles Porträt von Architektur.

Marcel van Beek works with photography, painting, and graphic design, drawing on his artistic background from his studies at the Alanus University of Art and Social Sciences. His technique combines pictorialist influences with romantic-symbolist imagery.
