I created the work "Cathartic Basin" for my exhibition "Vienna in the Field," Theseus Temple, Vienna, 1992. It was intended to call for a purification of world affairs; one might consider, for example, the situation in the Balkans after the opening of Eastern Europe. This work has survived the test of time with only minor, restorable damage, and its basic structure—the casing of the hemispherical basin, which was filled with approximately 1500 liters… of water during the exhibition—was incorporated into the work "IRON DOME daily" in 2025. Marco Szedenik is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and works with drawing, painting, sculpture, object art, concept art, photography, and installation. He combines precise craftsmanship with conceptual approaches, making his works both visually and intellectually compelling. His style oscillates between classical expressiveness and contemporary reflexivity. In his works, he conveys profound feelings of beauty, wonder, but also contemplation in the face of social injustices and the possibilities for improving our world.
