About this artwork
For years, I had photographed the desolation of the city at night. In a process-like manner, I partially destroyed the analog black-and-white footage. With the help of these uncontrollable disturbances, I was able to string together different image segments in a more or less recognizable way. A surreal urban panorama emerged, composed of new compositions in which I manipulated perspective and logic and questioned reality. I deliberately avoided digital…
compositing.
This series began in 2000 and continued until the beginning of 2025. It is the most important series in my early work. The questions and doubts regarding the possibility of collectively perceiving reality in the same way occupied me for a quarter of a century and were the driving force behind this series. I now found the answers in philosophy and spirituality.
I designed and personally crafted a special wooden frame especially for this series.
