About this artwork
Blush works entirely within the pink family. A deep rose ground surrounds a large pale blush form enclosed by a single sweeping arc, a third mid-tone pink filling the lower wedge where the curve meets the panel edge. Three tones of the same colour, each one made distinct by the black outline that separates them, the differences between them subtle enough that without the line they would simply dissolve into each other.
At the lower centre, a gold… accent applied in impasto sits where the three zones converge, its surface marked with visible raked brushstrokes, more physically present than the smooth fields surrounding it. It is the point where the composition anchors itself.
