About this artwork
Come Closer, Slowly, is part of The Leopard's Journey, a series in which each landscape becomes an emotional territory rather than a physical place.
Here, the invitation is not external, but internal. The viewer is not asked to approach the animal, but rather to approach a state of serene attention.
The panther doesn't seek attention; it maintains a presence. Its movement is minimal, yet it generates a subtle attraction: a force that invites the… viewer to enter slowly, almost unconsciously.
In this context, Come Closer, Slowly also becomes a way of experiencing the work: not through immediacy, but through gradual immersion. A silent approach guided by instinct rather than intention.
The work creates a presence that transforms the space, not through intensity, but through a silent and lasting atmosphere.
María Cortés, a Madrid-based painter, approaches her art with deep roots in art history, connoisseurship, and an intuitive, largely self-taught practice. She masterfully balances structure and freedom, employing colour-rich, layered compositions with simplified forms and symbolic motifs—particularly leopards and landscapes—as spaces for contemplation. Her contemporary paintings radiate atmosphere and harmony, inviting viewers to experience stillness, presence, and inner strength.
