About this artwork
Acrylic paint, sand and collage of a strip of linen on linen canvas.
At the end of 2025, a reflection on "the present moment" led me to rethink my approach to working and composing my pieces. Ultimately, writing seemed to me to be the closest thing to my definition of this present moment. For me, writing is intimate, spontaneous, continuous, and anchored in time. This is how this new series was born, its compositions illustrating the notion of movement.… The use of black acrylic paint, like a fountain pen ink, was therefore a natural choice. In this series, the background of my compositions is worked in several sections with a strip of linen that marks a pause, as if the work were falling silent for a brief moment. A pause that makes the gaze linger at a particular point and compels us to slow down. A colorful pause because, although black is predominant, it is a feeling of well-being that I seek to convey.
« My work is a perpetual quest for the perfect balance between shapes, colors and textures. »
Marie Amédro is a French-based artist whose paintings have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her work explores the dialogue between abstract painting and contemporary calligraphy. Using India ink on paper, she develops a spontaneous gestural script, which she then transcribes onto canvas with acrylic paint. The integration of natural materials, such as sand or linen, slows the viewer's gaze and introduces a tactile dimension, creating a tension between movement, surface, and silence. Her works thus offer an experience that is both contemplative and meditative.
