About this artwork
"Daruma" is an illustration made with colored pencils (Faber Castell polychromos) on 200g/m2 paper, 20x20cm format. The work is inspired by the "Daruma", a Japanese figurine of wishes, luck, prosperity and symbol of goals accomplished (initially made of papier-mâché in the shape of Bodhidharma, the legendary monk at the origin of Zen Buddhism). Traditionally red in color, the Daruma is a powerful talisman in the quest for success and accomplishment.…
When one acquires a Daruma (with white eyes), it is generally accompanied by the following ritual: painting one eye when establishing a new goal, objective or wish, and the second when it is achieved. Creating this work was a time of introspection about the journey, the different cultures that exist and what wishes I would like to see granted.
