"Hard to queer" is an illustration made with colored pencils (Faber Castell polychromos) on A4 paper, inspired by a self-portrait of the artist Nathan Selighini @nathanselighini wearing a dress created by himself, inspired by a creation by Jean Paul Gaultier: “Barbès” (women's ready-to-wear fall-winter collection of 1984–85, worn by Tanel Bedrossiantz and photographed in 1992 by Paolo Roversi). Creating this illustration was a tribute to the strength… of the Queer and LGBTQIA+ community that must daily face the numerous rejections, aggressiveness and negative judgment of society and its need not to deviate from the norm and tradition.
Marie Casaÿs, with a background in drawing and graphic design, is an accomplished artist who has specialized in colored pencil drawing on paper since 2018. Through meticulous gradient work and intense colors, inspired by photographic projects, she creates a modern, figurative and poetic graphic dynamic. The main themes of her works, namely the body, nudity and eroticism, are imbued with a warmth, elegance, and sensoriality that invite a deep and moving exploration of identity and love.
