About this artwork
I didn’t plan this painting… it found its way back to me.
This canvas had been sitting unfinished for a long time, waiting quietly. When I returned to it, something unexpected happened—these women began to appear. One by one, as if they had always been there, simply waiting for me to see them.
I called it “My Friends” because that’s exactly what they became.
I’ve always loved creating imaginary people—giving them life, presence, and personality.… Each woman in this painting carries her own energy, her own story, her own quiet strength. They don’t belong to anyone, yet they feel familiar… like the kind of friends we all need.
As we grow older, friendship takes on a deeper meaning. It’s not about quantity, but about connection, presence, and understanding. This painting is my way of surrounding myself with that feeling—of never being alone, of being held by a circle of strong, vibrant souls.
Maybe they are friends.
Maybe they are memories.
Maybe they are parts of you.

Realizing that life’s difficulties provided her with a new means of expression, Corbeil wants to convey a sense of joy within her contemporary abstract works. She draws forms and writes positive words under each canvas before beginning a piece. Employing large brushes to provoke unplanned strokes, she also uses her fingers to optimize the vibrant colors in her compositions.
