About this artwork
When I created The Earth Strikes Back, I imagined what it would look like if nature had enough of being neglected and started to take back its space. The oversized flowers you see here are bursting through New York City’s concrete jungle, glowing with strength and determination.
These blooms tell a story of resilience and power—they remind us that no matter how much we try to dominate and control the planet, nature will always find a way to rise… again. The city beneath feels muted and subdued, almost as if it’s being humbled by the beauty and force of these towering petals.
This painting is my way of expressing both my sadness for how we treat our world and my hope that nature can still reclaim its balance. As you take in the scene, I hope it inspires you to think about the beauty of our planet and what we can do to protect it before it’s too late.
« I breathe art, I eat art and I am happy. Art is in my blood. Art is my life. »
Marie Manon Corbeil began to paint amidst personal challenges:‘Between sadness and hope, there was art’. Realizing that life’s difficulties provided her with a new means of expression, Corbeil wants to convey a sense of joy within her contemporary abstract works. She draws forms and writes positive words under each canvas before beginning a piece. Employing large brushes to provoke unplanned strokes, she also uses her fingers to optimize the vibrant colors in her compositions.
