About this artwork
She works downtown, close to a small park where she eats her lunch and watches the city breathe.
Is she happy?
Some days yes, some days no.
She has worked many years. Enough to feel proud, and enough to feel a little tired. Retirement crosses her mind now and then, like a soft idea waiting for the right moment.
Her face is calm, thoughtful, steady.
A woman who shows up, does her job, and keeps going.
We don’t know everything about her.
But we… recognize her.
« I breathe art, I eat art and I am happy. Art is in my blood. Art is my life. »
Marie Manon Corbeil began to paint amidst personal challenges:‘Between sadness and hope, there was art’. Realizing that life’s difficulties provided her with a new means of expression, Corbeil wants to convey a sense of joy within her contemporary abstract works. She draws forms and writes positive words under each canvas before beginning a piece. Employing large brushes to provoke unplanned strokes, she also uses her fingers to optimize the vibrant colors in her compositions.
