About this artwork
Deep Sea Drifters is the second painting in this series. She combines individual puzzle pieces, reflecting interdependence and interconnectedness. There is ongoing movement, morphing and interaction between the organic and the metal shapes (tools, hardware, pipes and conduits). She begins by cutting out irregularly shaped wood panels and then uses automatic writing, making gestural calligraphic marks that reflect the movement of her arm/body as she…
moves across the surface. The imagery results from the rhythm and suggestions of the black marks on the white surface, a form of unconscious writing. The objects reference engine parts, industrial tools, personal objects, and undersea forms. There are also references to pipelines of oil spilling out over the sea life.
