About this artwork
This painting is part of the series Metropolitans; this series is all about being absorbed by the manmade, concrete world and finding your way out. My paintings are inspired by slightly apocalyptic thoughts. In my scenarios there’s always an escape and the viewer is even not sure weather it’s a pleasant trip or not. The fish in my painting represent lost creatures that are evidently out of place, like a fish out of water. The counter idea of this…
painting is that we all will probably submerge with the ocean again, sooner or later. Or in the best-case scenario we have to wear high boots or bikinis. There’s always hope (:

Marit Otto is a multi-disciplinary Dutch artist whose work has been exhibited in Netherlands, China and Vietnam. Implementing a range of materials from graphic to plastic, she portrays human nature in its sobriety - stripped of pretence, with particular focus on the human body in all its shapes, forms and behavioral aspects.
