About this artwork
The work explores time as a floating, relative presence — no longer fixed, but released from space and gravity. It evokes a sense of inner calm and quiet contemplation, capturing a moment of pause suspended between two states of being.
This work was created specifically for my solo exhibition held from January to February 2026, at the invitation of Galerie ArtTiberius in Frankfurt. I chose oil on canvas for this piece because of my deep connection… to the medium and my love for working with oil paint. Time, in this context, is understood as profoundly relative: at times a single second can feel like an eternity, while an entire lifetime may pass in what feels like a single second.

Marlene Schanz is a self-taught painter who has been experimenting with color, intuition, and direct hand contact since 2011, independently developing her own unique visual language. She works with a poetic blend of abstraction and subtle figuration, employing surreal moods, symbols such as fish and moons, and multifaceted color harmonies. Her works create intimate, almost ethereal spaces and powerfully convey a longing for memory, balance, and a sense of inner freedom.
