This terracotta sculpture captures an intimate embrace frozen in time, evoking warmth and connection. The textured surface and turquoise glaze breathe life into raw clay, embodying vulnerability and tenderness. I wanted this piece to radiate the universal need for closeness, inspiring your space with heartfelt energy and quiet strength. It invites viewers to feel seen, loved, and profoundly human.
The series' origins date back to the exhibition… in Germany titled Bella Italia, Italia Brutta, for which the first eighty-eight terracotta figurines were created. "Touching the Sun." The inspirations are deeply rooted in art history. On the one hand, it is a tribute to ancient Roman terracotta figurines—those small, everyday objects that accompanied life and rituals. On the other, it is a subtle dialogue with the working method of El Greco, who, to achieve the effect of otherworldly elongation and dynamic perspective on canvas, studied clay models placed on furniture.
