About this artwork
My new work is inspired by nature in Brazil.
The vibrant colors gave me hope in these times of war and violence.
After all, you can become depressed by all this heavy news.
Until one morning in my studio in Brazil,
Very unexpectedly, a flower opened for me on the balcony.
So much color and energy, and with a dark core where it seemed as if you were being sucked into it.
It gave me hope. And made me curious whether I, too, would succeed in matching… this divine beauty.
I do not want to draw the outward form, but the essence of this flower: the energy of this flower.
Having returned home from Brazil with a pack full of sketches, I got to work. The result of this process of searching for the right colors and design is now on display.
Maybe it gives you hope too?
