About this artwork
This work reflects a simple yet deeply meaningful moment captured during an artist residency in Cameroon. That day, children were patiently braiding a friend's hair, a gesture both intimate and culturally rooted. African braids are not just a hairstyle. They are a language, a transmission of know-how, an art that unites generations and communities. Each braid tells a story, each gesture carries a memory. Here, through the meticulousness of the working…
hands and the peaceful posture of the young woman, I wanted to capture this relationship between those who weave and those who allow themselves to be braided. The choice of colors reinforces this connection: the warm tones of the skin and jewelry evoke the richness of human bonds, while the colorful fabric, with its vibrant patterns, anchors the scene in its cultural environment.
