About this artwork
An exploration of the human soul with all its facets, expressed through the use of color. Scratches, incisions that leave their mark, the attempt to reconstruct our experiences and what they leave us, to make us what we are.
Each of my oil on canvas works is a long research that must respect the drying times of the colors, that starts from color fields and then removes, digs, engraves, until I find the essence of the painting, with a unique technique… that I created after many experiments.
In this painting the brightness of the white lets the colors shine through, linked to the browns, reds and ochres of the earth, marked by incisions that recall our ancestral need to leave a mark. The surface, characteristic of my technique, is not material as it might seem: if you caress the painting you discover it perfectly smooth.

Maurizio Paccagnella is an award-winning Italian painter and sculptor whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in Morocco. Formerly a hyper-realistic artist, he abandoned this expression, as it has become too tied to formality and perfection. Paccagnella's artistic journey led him towards the path of abstraction, from which he creates blurred and evocative images that seem to "emerge from the memories of the time".
