About this artwork
Nordic Solitude captures a powerful and unsettling scene: a remote fisherman's cabin on the edge of a fjord in northern Iceland, surrounded by tall, windswept grass. Before it, the water appears eerily calm and azure, a stark contrast to the menacing sky above, laden with heavy, dark clouds. The image exudes an almost palpable tension, where the apparent tranquility of the waters clashes with the violence of a stormy sky.
That day, I had ventured… into one of the most remote fjords in northern Iceland, drawn by the calm of this wild region and the idea of discovering these landscapes that seem frozen in time. The fisherman's hut, planted there as a final refuge in the face of the immensity, struck me by its isolation, accentuated by the total absence of other habitations. I observed, fascinated, the scene before me: the peaceful, almost deceptive waters, and, in the background, this dark and angry sky.
