About this artwork
In Introspection, the human figure becomes a territory for material exploration. In this 120x80 cm work, I use a gesso base to sculpt the skin and the surrounding environment, creating a tactile surface that gives the silhouette a three-dimensional quality.
The work stands out for its distinct technical approach: while the body is constructed with the immediacy of acrylic and relief, the hair and certain deep blue accents have been rendered in… oil, allowing for a richness of nuance, luminosity, and softness that contrasts with the strength of the background. It is a piece that captures a moment of stillness and vulnerability, where vibrant color and rough texture unite to narrate the complexity of the inner world.
Mayte Yagüe, known artistically as MAGÜE, is a Barcelona-based visual artist with a background in Graphic Design. Her works demonstrate a profound mastery of composition and color, and she has achieved significant international recognition. She employs acrylics, contemporary collage, and reliefs, developing a Material Abstraction that combines gestural chaos and ordered geometry, highlighting three-dimensionality and tactile richness. Her pieces explore marine fluidity and introspection, conveying calm, resilience, and a vibrant stillness that invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the serenity and transformative energy of nature.
