About this artwork
"My art is my freedom; in it I can be myself and break free from the shackles of society." An acrylic painting on canvas, accented with silver. At the center of the composition unfolds a spiral, opening upwards in harmonious motion. This spiral symbolizes the eternal search and ascent to inner freedom. The silver represents the soul, the true self, shining in its purity and authenticity. Surrounding the silver is white, which represents our everyday… existence and the roles we embody in society. Turquoise acts like breath, creating expansiveness and enabling expression and clarity. The black in the composition represents the societal constraints that grip us and attempt to restrict our freedom. Yet, this work reveals that true freedom does not depend on external circumstances but is found within being itself, in the deepest connection with oneself.
Melanie Meyer, a self-taught artist, dedicates her work to the intensive exploration of human experience. Her sculptures and paintings express an emotional journey and focus particularly on the issue of sexual violence against children. Her art gives a voice to those affected worldwide, breaks taboos, demands justice, and serves as a testament to suffering and resilience. Driven by the search for humanity and the exploration of human existence, she creates multifaceted art that touches and inspires reflection. She sees her works as powerful instruments to bring light into an often dark world and to remind us of the inalienable nature of our humanity. She is currently seeking sponsors who share her vision to further develop her exhibition "Because what must not be cannot be," a memorial dedicated to the victims of sexual violence.
