About this artwork
The Mediterranean sea fascinates me in every season. I love to paint it in all its infinite moods. This work was painted in October near the small town of Nikolaki in Greece. It captures the quiet end-of-season beach with only a a small family of hardy bathers enjoying the last rays of warm summer sun. The turquiose blue of the sea at that time is intense, the sun is shining, the breeze is still balmy, but there's a change in the air. I was attracted…
to this sense of the swimmers stealing a few more moments of pleasure before winter sets in, which is what I was doing myself, painting one more wistful Mediterranean seascape before heading home to London.
