"Kona Phil" is a mixed media piece done primarily in acrylics, but it also has pastel, spray paint, and ink with high gloss varnish on stretched canvas. While on a trip to Kona, Hawaii, the artist met an interesting local named Phil who talked at length about growing up surfing in Southern California, fighting in Vietnam, working as a teacher in a remote area of Nevada, and ultimately moving to Kona.
