The building block motif for me isn't merely about nostalgia for the childhood spirit or 20th century neo-classical/modernist forms, its a structure that allows me to explore metaphors of infantilism and the desire for a "pre-ego" state in an ultra contemporary world. A framework that represents the timelessness and abstract nature of pure creative potential… in and of itself. It’s also a way to contemplate experiences & impose sensations or ideas onto something that is simply more impersonal, universal & foundational. Overall with my art I also seek to question the value of “self-expression”, the vulnerabilities of the creative ego & the possibility of transcendence among excessive materiality.
