With the "Ascension" series I wanted to develop a way of working that allows for experimental collage within a simplistic geometric framework. My objective is to temper the anxiety of decision making by utilizing simple parameters in composition, texture, gesture & color. This process seems to allow me to be more mindful and it instills a sense of harmony with the various… materials and mediums I use. The building block motif for me isn't merely about nostalgia for the childhood spirit or 20th century neo-classical/modernist forms, its a structure that allows me to explore metaphors of infantilism and the desire for a "pre-ego" state in an ultra contemporary world.
