About this artwork
In this work, I played with bold colors and dynamic forms to depict the tension between spring's awakening and its passing. The combination of acrylic, photographic print, and graffiti creates a vibrant energy that makes the image pulsate. Right now, the moment is full of contrasts and life!
The edited photo was taken in a flower shop where I hesitated for a long time about whether I should really buy flowers that wilt so quickly. I did it.
My… overarching theme is "transience" as an opportunity, freely adapted from Goethe's motto: "Die and become!" No motif expresses transience better than flowers in vases, however decorative they may be.
Michaela Kuhl is a painter who works primarily in watercolor and oil techniques. She is a survivor of the 2004 tsunami, incorporating her experiences into her artistic development. She uses layered painting techniques that symbolize transformation and growth, as well as poetic titles to open up access to the depth of her paintings. Her works convey courage, hope, and the power to draw personal growth and strength from challenges—especially for women.
