This work is presented in a black box-style frame (78.4 × 64.5 × 4.8 cm), whose deep structure enhances the depth and presence of the piece. Artwork size: 50.0 × 60.6 cm.
This piece is one of the early works from my long-standing Rakusui paper series. The process is highly meticulous and labor-intensive, rooted in a craftsman-like approach developed over many years. Red acrylic paint permeates the delicate fibers of the paper, while red and orange… oil pastels are finely shaved and carefully embedded into the surface through repeated layers and intricate manual techniques. Through this accumulation of time and process, rich color, texture, and luminosity emerge.
The red rising from the darkness conveys both strength and intensity while containing traces of emotion and memory within. Between what remains concealed and what gradually reveals itself, there exists a powerful energy — quiet, yet deeply charged.
Miho Umemura is a seasoned spatial designer turned painter, using acrylic paints and mixed media on washi paper, honed through a diverse career spanning spatial and graphic design. Her layered, abstract works intertwine intuitive gestures with meticulous composition, bringing life to unseen emotional nuances and intangible memories. Umemura's creations invite viewers into a deeply personal and open-ended exploration of color as a testament to the nuanced power of the heart, evoking a quiet resonance with each individual’s personal narrative.
