About this artwork
I painted these pots as they looked on a late-afternoon porch—sun-warmed boards, scuffed terracotta, a humble white bucket, and pansies leaning every which way. I love the mix of resilience and unruliness: fresh green runners tumbling over the rim while spent blooms curl back to seed. The dappled light stitches it together, turning ordinary containers into a small portrait of care, neglect, and the quiet work of growing.
Mike Haubenstock is a passionate painter with over 20 years of experience, enriched by guidance from art teachers and coaches. He works primarily in oils, embracing a modern impressionist style with representational forms, loose brushwork, and high-key colors, often using a palette knife for textural depth. His evocative still lifes, florals, landscapes, and unique reflection series merge everyday beauty with intriguing urban overlays. Through his art, he radiates the joy of discovery and the deep satisfaction of creative problem-solving, inviting viewers to slow down, connect, and savor the subtle poetry of ordinary moments.
