About this artwork

We all are an existence in exile and exodus...if we really think about it, from the very first moment in which we came out of our mother's womb, our pilgrimage began. We left that comfortable and warm place, where blows and sounds were totally muffled... there was no need to look for food, drink or shelter. Everything was already there. Yet, from our birth... the exodus begins, that's how it is for everybody. We are all foreigners in no man's land...… then, why so much intolerance and racism... why???

Mila Ruiz is an experienced multidisciplinary artist based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, in Portugal and the United States. Expressing her creativity via painting, printmaking, sculpting, and illustration, as well as performance and video installations, she believes that art allows us to go beyond human barbarism and injustice. Ruiz's journey is marked by curiosity and exploration of the self and the world.
