In this work I explored the interplay between textile, dyeing and sculpture to capture the essence of primitivism. It is a hand-spun and hand-woven cotton canvas from Mali called "Bogolan" (bogo = earth; lan = from).
The colours are obtained with decoctions of leaves with therapeutic virtues and fermented mud. The white geometric shapes are made by rubbing the fabric with soap and with a mixture of washing powder, chlorine and shea soap which serve… as powerful bleaches. The more sober colours such as black and brown come from a mixture of soda, cereals and peanuts.
To this magnificent work, I mixed sculptures of a couple of African warriors, evoking deep connections with ancient traditions.
It is an invitation to meditate on our cultural roots, bringing an energy of reflection and authenticity into any contemporary space.
Mohamed Lamine Sylla, with roots in cabinetmaking and lighting design, skillfully uses recycled wood painted with oil. Embracing contradictions and eco-responsibility, his techniques fuse repurposed objects, paintings, and furniture into thoughtful, three-dimensional compositions. His works invite contemplative reflection on love, spirituality, and environmental protection. Having been passionate about photography for a very long time, in 2025 he decided to share his passion through the most beautiful shots he had captured a few years earlier.
