About this artwork
Working on the painting "Monnalisa's Smile", I see the changes in the world before my eyes every day, from local ones to global phenomena and this is inevitably reflected in my work.
In my work I have addressed the problem of change within the globalized society, I have seen the dissolution of many social structures, of thought, habits and customs and everything happens in apparent randomness, without reasons that are not dictated by the economic… needs of the time itself .
The reinterpretation of the Monnalisa represents the art of the great masters of the past projected into the near future. A future where no one will take care of you (classical art). I imagine it and portray the canvas of Monnalisa abandoned, forgotten, outside the Louvre, outside the museums. We will only remember her smile. Mine is meant to be a provocation to say something new, a cry for innovation in a world that is losing certainties.
Monica Catto, a contemporary impressionist painter with 25 years of experience, blends tradition and innovation in works that explore the dynamics between light and shadow. Rooted in family heritage, she works with oil, acrylic and cold wax, applied with brushes, spatulas and rollers to create textures that capture the viewer. Her creations go beyond landscape and portraiture, becoming emotional reflections that invite a deep awareness of urban evolution and the interiority of the human being. Among her most significant works are the "Leonardeschi", permanently exhibited at the Museo Mostra Leonardo da Vinci in Venice, and a collection of landscapes of the city of Desio, exhibited at Banca BPM in Desio. Monica Catto continues to innovate the impressionist language, creating works that speak to the heart and mind.
