About this artwork
This is a brave combination of classics, mythology, and fashion by Philipp Plein. This painting brings out the extravagant and extremely sensual nature of Plein's fashion aesthetic. The Laocoön sculpture was set in the surreal context of Plein's universe. The background of the painting consists of purple flowers inspired by the designer's fashion motif. There are metallic decorations around the Laocoön, which refer to Plein's characteristic style,… which often uses animal elements in his collections. This painting is a perfect combination of the past and the present, classic art and modernity, fashion and art. The presence of Philipp Plein himself at the event, where the work could be admired, only confirmed its uniqueness and impact.
« Art gives me the opportunity to express myself and my emotions in a very ecstatic and colorful, crazy way. »
The artist was born in Opole and studied at the Institute of Art, part of Opole University's Faculty of History and Pedagogy, from 2010 to 2015, earning a master's degree in art. The artist has recently focused on classical art, drawing from the grace of ancient marble sculptures and the depth of mythology, while also incorporating the dynamic energy of pop art. This combination gives the artist a wide spectrum of subject matter to explore. The chosen technique for this style is unconventional; the artist exclusively utilizes paints derived from linseed or safflower oil to depict figures, purposefully abstaining from superfluous solvents. The sole medium employed is pure walnut oil, serving both as a substance for mixing paint during the creative process and as a natural cleansing agent for brushes.
