Buried Ornament explores the tension between cultural memory and material weight. A fragment of carpet imagery — traditionally a symbol of home, warmth, and inherited identity — is compressed onto a block of black concrete, a material associated with construction, industry, and permanence.
By forcing a delicate ornamental language onto a heavy architectural mass, the work questions what happens to tradition when it is absorbed by modern structures.… The carpet pattern becomes both preserved and suffocated: visible, yet trapped within a rigid form.
The piece suggests that heritage does not disappear in contemporary life; it is instead buried, pressed, and carried within the materials that shape our present environment.
