About this artwork
In this work, I tried to intensely capture a suspended moment, that of a young woman in curlers, cigarette in hand, with a direct and penetrating gaze. Cynthia embodies a casual, free and slightly insolent femininity, carried by a posture that is both nonchalant and assertive.
The vivid, contrasting palette underscores this blend of confidence and fragility: the sheer skin echoes the bold hues of the outfit, while the multicolored curlers punctuate… the hairstyle with a playful touch. The textured, golden background reinforces the magnetic presence of the character, who almost seems to emerge from the canvas to question the viewer.
With this series, The Girl with Hair Curlers, the artist explores the intimacy of contemporary female figures, between everyday rituals and the power of inner expression.
