About this artwork
The title might suggest an attempt at resurrection, but this is a testament to the human desire to reassemble what is broken.
The central figure is the Dodo that is rendered as a complex assemblage of geometric forms. In its beak, it holds a tiny, curled form. It is the worm of sustenance. It feels like the final, missing clue, the key that might allow the whole structure to truly breathe.
The scene is set upon surface sections filled with stylized… representations of palm fronds offering a glimpse into the bird's lost habitat and fragments of human industry and intellect.
This is not a painting of a dodo. It's a collage of the disparate pieces we cling to. The geometric dodo is an attempt to reassemble the past. It speaks of things that were once solid, now reduced to etched lines and fleeting calculations. But the coiled worm , that spark of life, is a flicker of hope, a reminder that even in the face of loss, the urge to understand, and to make whole again, remains.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Nagui's passion for painting blossomed during his college years. While pursuing his medical degree, he concurrently enrolled in the independent fine art study program at the University of Alexandria Atelier. This dual pursuit of art and medicine would profoundly shape his artistic perspective.
His early work quickly gained recognition. In 1973, he held his inaugural solo exhibition at the University Physician's Club, followed by another in 1975 at the prestigious French Cultural Center in Alexandria.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Nagui embarked on a career in psychiatry, a profession he believes has significantly influenced his approach to painting.
Artistic Practice: Nagui maintains a prolific output, annually producing a substantial body of work that includes medium and large-size paintings, alongside numerous smaller pieces and drawings.
