About this artwork
Long after palaces have fallen and kingdoms have passed into history, the stones remain. They stand beneath the same sky, bearing witness to generations of change, their stories softened but never lost. Part of the Pardis series, Persepolis reflects on the quiet endurance of cultural memory and the invisible threads that continue to connect us to the distant past.
The columns of Persepolis have outlived the empire that raised them. Weathered by… time yet still standing, they remain as silent witnesses to a world that has long since vanished. In this painting, those ancient stones are given new colour and energy, inviting the past into conversation with the present.

Nancy Nikberg is a self-taught painter and contemporary artist who utilizes a conceptual approach shaped by a rich multicultural background. As the daughter of Iranian parents, raised in Sweden, shaped by years living in London, and now based in Hawaii, she has experienced the world through multiple cultural lenses. While her work is not strictly autobiographical, these experiences inform perspective and her fascination with identity, belonging, cultural memory, and human connection.
Many of her projects take the form of distinct series, each with its own visual language and conceptual foundation, functioning as a self-contained universe.
The paintings are often accompanied by poetry and cinematic process videos that extend the central theme beyond the canvas. Through carefully considered music, rhythm, imagery, and atmosphere, these works collectively create an immersive experience that deepens the dialogue between concept, process, and viewer.
