About this artwork
I bought a few yards of very heavy canvas, probably sail boat quality. Almost too heavy to put on stretcher bars. I washed it
several times to make it softer and smoother. It came out rather wrinkled...I tried to iron it but to no avail. Then I died the whole piece blue through and through and the wrinkles made a very interesting texture,
Which let me to use those pattern for my composition. As there was no primer/gesso on the surface, it took many… layers of paint and patience to make the forms stand out. A very new procedure for me. It was more like painting a textile than painting on a primed canvas.. Hence the special dreamlike mood it created. As for the forms themselves....well the wrinkles and small folds showed me the way. I am very proud of this one..
