This work emerged as a visual diary of pain, prohibitions, and inner struggle. Figures, faces, and words intertwine on the paper: “routine,” “I hate,” “headache (prohibitions),” “you must not scream.” The graphic line becomes both body and voice, capturing the tension between freedom and restriction, between childlike vulnerability and adult awareness.
Color stains — red, pink, turquoise — overlay the black-and-white drawing like burns and scars… left by memory and emotions. They reflect suppressed energy, unspoken feelings, and prohibitions inscribed in the body.
The work addresses the themes of everyday life repeating as “routine,” and the human effort to break through this repetition, reclaiming the right to pleasure, to voice, to one’s own body.
Here, the personal merges with the universal: the experience of pain and confinement is transformed into an image that can be read as a diary, a manifesto, and a map of escape from the closed circle.
Natalia Rosenbaum is a painter, textile artist, printmaker, sculptor, and conceptual artist whose unconventional background bridges art with thermophysics, infusing her practice with a scientific and cultural sensibility. She masterfully combines graphic expressiveness and corporeal layering across drawing, lithography, linocut, monotype, soft sculpture, and textiles, harnessing pastels, ink, and fabric as vessels for memory and archetype. Her evocative works—personal yet universal “inner maps”—explore memory, female identity, trauma, and transformation, enveloping the viewer in spaces charged with recognition, healing, and deep emotional resonance.
